Families come in all different shapes and sizes and one thing is for sure they are constantly growing, changing and evolving. Your family will never again be who they are TODAY. New milestones, growing little bodies, changing faces and graying hair (yes, it happens!), starting high school, leaving for college, etc, etc…We all know it happens but what we fail to realize is how quickly it happens.
With today’s technology everyone has a smart phone with a camera and you may very well have hundreds of photos on your phone. But is the entire family in those photos? Are those photos worthy of being printed large and hung on your walls? Probably not. At Misi Inskeep Photography you will have those beautiful images to hang in your home and all your family members will be in them, including you!
For my family portrait sessions, I like to capture a nice variety of posed and candid images. I usually start with gently guided poses and once you all relax the candid shots come easily. Of course, there will be a combination of family photos, different sibling pairings and parents with children. I also like to take each child aside and capture some great individual shots. All these different poses work well for designing a gallery display or album.
I also want to make sure I get some amazing photos of the parents together. Couple photos are important to me during family sessions and are often some of my favorites.

It’s never too early to get on my calendar, it’s perfectly okay to contact me 3 months in advance especially if you want a fall session. I have a full time job besides being a photographer so I only have a limited number of days a month I devote to photography.
Yes, there is! I prefer to photograph families in the evening.The most perfect time to shoot is about 2 hours before sunset. Photographers call this the golden hour and shooting at this time of day is a very important part of my style.
Don’t worry we can talk this out and find out what type of location works best for your family. Once we pinpoint that we can discuss clothing options.
Remember classic looks are timeless. Solids and subtle patterns can compliment each other. Be careful not to pick a very small pattern or thin lines. The small design makes it difficult for the camera to focus and it may cause a wavy pattern when printed.
Try to avoid loud prints and logos. If you’ve selected a shirt with word on it, keep in mind often the shirt will be bunched up when sitting and the words may not be readable. As far as colors to avoid, stay away from neon or really bright colors because they can throw a color cast on your skin an it is difficult to correct. Also, I’m not a huge fan of white unless you’re a bride or a baby. I think white bottoms are perfectly fine but white tops or dresses can wash some complexions out.
Layers add dimension and interest. Suggested items to layer are jackets, vests and scarves. Also, don’t forget to accessorize with jewelry and hats.
Shoes are an important detail to your overall look. They can make or break an outfit. Please pay attention to your sock color too, unless you are intentionally going for a unique look.
Please don’t schedule your appointmnet near naptime, bedtime or mealtime. Please feed your children before your session and make sure they’re well rested.
